I'm Hannah Smith,

Durango's Premier Private Chef

And I’m thrilled to have you here on this culinary adventure. As a private chef, I believe food is more than a meal.  It’s an opportunity to connect with the lands with which we live and to remember that we are not distinct from the natural world.

Over the past ten years, my culinary journey has taken me all over the world. During my time spent cheffing at a high-end off-grid hut (at over 11,000 feet!), I witnessed again and again how coming together over shared meals cultivates community and connection.

I believe that we are what we eat – and what we eat eats!  By sourcing the highest quality ingredients and aligning my offerings with the seasons, I hope to invite you into a deeper conversation with the rhythms of nature.

I’ve been food-obsessed for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a bi-cultural household where food was central to both cultures. Born in Tokyo, I’ve been lucky enough to live worldwide (although nothing feels luckier than having found a home in Durango in 2016).

I love the story that food tells: a story that weaves culture, history, and agriculture; a story told as much by the lands as the people cooking. I love the science of home cooking and am passionate about dry brining, Dutch ovens, and cross-cultural culinary creations (say that three times fast!).

I draw my inspiration from the seasonal offerings of nature and the well-tended recipes of grandmothers all over the world. I obsess over every detail so that either you don’t have to… or so that we can share in a food-centric way of being.

Some eat to live; I live to eat.
